The University of Tripoli, as the second Libyan governmental institution of higher education, feels the responsibility it bears to contribute to the consolidation of sustainable community development and the dissemination and promotion of its culture, and it also feels a great responsibility to provide a helping hand to the various state institutions to employ technology properly and to move away from traditional methods that have often become more harmful than beneficial. Within the framework of rooting and developing community partnership and in order to achieve its main goal, which is to achieve the global goals of sustainable development approved by the United Nations, the Presidency of the University of Tripoli has established a center concerned with community sustainability within the University of Tripoli directly reports to the President of the University. It can be considered the main pillar in the process of comprehensive community development. Through the adoption of an integrated strategic approach to research and innovation, the Center can provide various community programs, activities and services to all segments of society (development, awareness and consulting) at the hands of specialized cadres, with innovative visions and sustainable development contributions, which ensures a balance between our social, economic and environmental needs, and allows prosperity and improvement of the quality of life for current generations without prejudice to the rights of future generations to a better life.

Mission
The center seeks to:
- Providing research, consulting, training, and information services, and awareness programs that contribute to activating and integrating societal sustainable development efforts at the University of Tripoli.
- Building local, regional, and international partnerships to achieve sustainable development without depleting available resources, and not prejudice the right of present and future generations to achieve a better life.

─ Contribute to building and developing community programs in accordance with sustainable development standards to achieve better living conditions for a society capable of benefiting from its potential and resources.
─ Contribute to enabling Libyan civil society organizations to communicate, interact and network their capabilities and resources to enhance their knowledge capacities and expertise to achieve sustainable development.

Tasks
The tasks of the Center are summarized as follows:
─ Proposing public policy and strategies to achieve community sustainability inside and outside the university.
─ Develop a plan to raise awareness and introduce the contents of the sustainable development goals, and organize conferences, seminars, lectures, workshops and training courses in the field of sustainable development.
─ Propose innovative and interdisciplinary research projects to address key sustainability issues: biotechnology, food sustainability, energy, water, waste and human sustainability.
─ Propose mechanisms to encourage academic publishing in the field of sustainable development.
─ Encourage and support educational programs and/or curricula related to the global Sustainable Development Goals.
─ Develop a platform for knowledge in sustainable development on issues related to national security.
─ Prepare periodic reports on community sustainability and submit them to the university presidency.
─ Topics referred to it in relation to community sustainability.
