More ...About Department of Geophysics
The Faculty of Science witnessed a significant expansion in the departments in the seventies and eighties of the last century, including the establishment of the Department of Geophysics in 1988 after it was a specialized division in the Department of Earth Sciences in 1976, and the department seeks to develop its university and graduate study programs through the opening of the new department with its integrated laboratories.
The department works closely with various national organizations and institutions, including oil companies, the Oil Research Center, the Industrial Research Center, and the General Water Authority, to foster collaboration in exploration efforts. Through partnership programs, the department aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences in petroleum training between government and non-governmental institutions. This allows students to gain practical skills and enhance their qualifications by leveraging the resources and expertise available to them.
The partnerships are:
- Earth sciences partnership with the Libyan Petroluem Institute.
- Earth sciences partnership with the National Oil Corporation
- Earth Sciences Partnership with Schlumberger
The department holds many scientific and cultural seminars during the semester, by hosting Libyan and foreign experts in various journals, including geophysical and geological exploration and petroleum engineering.
